ETS and HERMOS AG receive major projects at FAIR, one of the most important construction projects for cutting-edge research worldwide.
The FAIR particle acceleration facility is a megaproject with international appeal in every respect. Construction work on the research center has already been underway since 2017. A total of 25 structures will be built on an area of over 150,000 m². Some of the building sections will reach up to 17 m in depth and over 20 m in height and will require around 600,000 m² of concrete.
The ventilation and air-conditioning technology have been assigned to ARGE FAIR RLT
With the project assignment for demanding areas of ventilation and air-conditioning technology to ARGE FAIR RLT, consisting of Efficient Technical Solutions GmbH (ETS) and Calvias Gebäudetechnik GmbH (CGT), the two companies have been able to secure a valuable major contract in one of the world's most prestigious construction projects in cutting-edge research.
Since August 2021, with the start of the planning phase, ETS has been part of this internationally important project as a cooperative venture partner and has been commissioned with the supply and installation of ventilation technology, smoke extraction and exhaust air as well as air conditioning solutions. In this overall contract, ETS is implementing projects in the south area in particular within the ARGE with Calvias Gebäudetechnik GmbH. The ARGE partner CGT is responsible for the subprojects in the northern area of the project.
The dimensions of the construction project, which is being built in the north of the Hessian city of Darmstadt, make the key project data very clear: approx. 95 decentralized ventilation centers will supply around 520 ventilation systems with a total volume of more than 2.1 million m³/h. The project will also include the installation of a new air-conditioning system. Approx. 4,000 air-circulation cooling units with outputs of between 2.7 and 8 kW will be used, as will around 50 precision air-conditioning cabinets with outputs of between 20 and 80 kW. Around 24 smoke pressure systems (RDA) will be installed for safety stairwells and fire department elevators, and around 55 mechanical smoke extraction systems will be installed for other applications.
Marko Maier and Florian Oberpaul, the two managing directors of Efficient Technical Solutions GmbH, describe the decision in favor of ETS: "Our technical know-how and our performance in these segments, which we can document with numerous meaningful references were decisive for winning the bidding process. But also, the so-called soft skills and our lean management structures also played a role." Marko Maier continues: "Being able to participate in this extraordinary lighthouse project is a special honor for us and the entire Elevion Group. We look forward to 4.5 successful years of the project.”
HERMOS AG provides automation for FAIR
HERMOS AG has been awarded the building and process automation contract for FAIR GmbH.
In March 2021, HERMOS started the major project with the supply, installation and commissioning of the building and process automation. In addition, HERMOS supplies hardware and software engineering as well as switchgear construction. HERMOS was able to win the corresponding tender with the most economical offer, due partly to its own component manufacturing and in-house switchgear construction. As HERMOS CEO Florian Schwarz explained, HERMOS was able to convince not only with the pure price, but also with its mature concept and functional technology.
Further award criteria of FAIR were the quality of the management and the project planning, which HERMOS was also able to demonstrate convincingly according to the specifications.
Facts and figures that illustrate the dimension and complexity of the project: approx. 95 decentralized ventilation centers will supply around 520 ventilation systems with a total volume of more than 2.1 million m³/h. The electrical systems have four transformers with 110/20 kV with a total of 220 MVA. The electrical systems have four 110/20 kV transformers with a total of 220 MVA. In addition, approx. 132 transformers with 20/0.4 kV are installed. Approx. 17 medium-voltage systems with 259 switchgear panels (20 kV) supply the buildings and facilities with electricity. The cable length of the electrical installation comprises about 1,300,000 meters, the cable conduits are about 105,000 meters long, and the medium-voltage cables are about 42,000 meters long. "The bar in terms of complexity, performance and quality of the technology to be installed by us at FAIR is enormously high. This is precisely why we consider it an honor to be able to play a significant role in this research project with international appeal," says Harald Köhler, CEO of HERMOS AG. "This project is a beacon for our company and the entire Elevion Group."
